CAW/CLC Ottawa Lobby on Bill C-257 - Ban on Replacement Workers
|

|
It has been a privilege for me to work with the CAW lobby team and other labour activists with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and their affiliates in lobbying the Federal Government and politicians to support Bill C-257, which if passed, would ban the use of replacement workers during strikes or lockouts in the Federal sector. We were in Ottawa from March 19 to 22, 2007 working very hard in hoping to make a difference in the lives of working people by bringing balance and fairness to the Canada Labour Code when it comes to collective bargaining.
Third and final reading on this important Bill was on Wednesday night, March 21 at 5:30 EST in the House of Commons. The full CLC/CAW Lobby Teams was in attendance.
During the October lobby, I met with Alberta Liberal Senator Grant Mitchell; Liberal MP Sukh Dhaliwal of Newton-North Delta; Liberal MP Don Bell of North Vancouver; NDP MP Peter Stoffer of Sackville-Eastern Shore; NDP MP Libby Davies of Vancouver East; NDP MP Bill Blaikie of Elmwood-Transcona and Liberal MP Keith Martin of Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca.
During the March lobby, I had had the opportunity to meet with Liberal MP Karen Redmond of Kitchener Centre and Liberal MP Andrew Telegdi of Kitchener-Waterloo. In addition to the letters I sent various politicians, I also made several phone calls to encourage MPs to support this Bill.
