John Almdal elected Council 4000 Regional Rep Great Lakes Region
On April 26, 2008, John Almdal was elected as Council 4000's new Regional
Representative responsible for servicing Great Lakes Region members for
Local 4003 at CN, Coyote Terminals and Toronto Terminals Railway.  Almdal
defeated his challenger Geoff Green.  Both candidates are employed at CN
and work in the Greater Toronto area.

May Day 2008 - International Workers' Day
On May Day, in Canada and around the world, celebrities, artists, musicians, writers, faith
organizations, charities and community activists will join workers and their unions in a call
to honour those who have struggled to improve the lives of working people.  The first day
of every May is International Workers' Day.

CN vacates downtown Edmonton's landmark CN Tower

The last of a CN presence in downtown
Edmonton has come to end with this
months move of 250 CN employees from
the CN Tower to existing offices and a new
office complex just built at Walker Yard,
north of Edmonton’s City Centre Airport.

The CN Tower, when it was built in 1966, was the tallest office building
in Western Canada.  It was sold by CN some years ago and the
Company has been leasing back space in the building.  After years of
downsizing, by 2008 CN occupied only a few floors of what was once
the heart of its Western Canada operations.

VIA Rail train quarantined enroute from Vancouver to Toronto
Canadian health authorities quarantined a VIA Rail passenger train after one person was
found dead
and several became seriously ill on Friday.  One woman was airlifted to a
hospital in Timmins, about 100 kilometres away, and emergency response workers in
hazmat suits rushed to the scene in the Northern Ontario hamlet of Foleyet to tend to
those with flu-like symptoms.  Two cars of the VIA train with 260 passengers and 30 crew
members was crew members and off board employees.

Quebec Council celebrates new Quebec Director-Silver Anniversary
At his last Quebec Council during his 14 year tenure as Quebec Director, Luc Desnoyers
shared with the more than 250 delegates gathered in Mont Tremblant what he believes is
the reason for the union’s success in Quebec and the rest of Canada. "The CAW

embodies the members’ vision of what a union should be,” he said.
