|CAW Collective Bargaining and Political Action Convention starts June 10th in Toronto
|In May, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) ordered a representation vote to be taken under Section 29(1) of the Canada Labour Code of United
Transportation Union (UTU) members employed at CN. This follows an application by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) under Section 24 of
the Code to certify UTU members at CN (Conductors, various Yard Employees and Yardmasters) under the banner of the TCRC.
A conference call was held between the CIRB and TCRC on Friday afternoon (June 6th), and it was confirmed that CN will be supplying the current UTU
membership/employee lists early this week (June 9th).
On June 11, 2008, the CIRB will outline the schedule for the representation vote where UTU members will vote to remain with the UTU or join the TCRC, who
represent Locomotive Engineers and Rail Traffic Controllers at CN and CP Rail, in addition to CP Rail Conductors, Yard Employees, Yardmasters,
Transportation Clerks and Maintenance of Way employees. It is rumoured that there may be an approximate 6-week turnaround for UTU members to return
