Unions jointly address pension consent issue with CN
Over the past number of months, the six unions representing various employees at CN, including the CAW, have been contending with a very complex issue
concerning the CN Pension Plan, specifically, pension consent.  Union Representatives who sit on the CN Pension Board have been working jointly in
attempts to resolve the dispute with CN in protecting employees' rights to retire with unreduced pensions at age 55.

On September 7, 2007, the unions - Canadian Auto Workers (CAW); C.N.R. Police Association (CNRPA); International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
(IBEW); Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC); United Steel Workers (USW) and United Transportation Union (UTU), jointly, submitted a final offer to CN
in an effort to resolve this dispute, stating in part: "This last move is made in the spirit of reestablishing our members’ lost confidence in their ability to retire
without penalty at age 55."  Click on the links below for copies of the unions' final offer submitted to CN's Sr. Vice President of People Les Dakens:

On September 11, 2007, Bob Chernecki, Assistant to CAW President Buzz Hargrove, wrote CN's Vice President of Labour Relations concerning the unions'
final offer of September 7th, and advised that the CAW is of the viewpoint that the pension consent issue will not be resolved mutually between the parties and
that the CAW will, consequently, proceed with this matter to arbitration.  Click on the link below to read a copy of this letter:

On September 17, 2007, representatives from five of the unions representing workers at CN, in a joint effort, issued a statement and update to all of CN's
unionized workforce and members of the CN Pension Plan concerning the pension consent issue.

In conjunction with this joint statement, the CAW issued a Railfax to its CN membership (below):
