CAW Council 4000 Mountain Region CN Strike Votes
The CAW will be conducting strike votes across Canada to strengthen its position during their current contract negotiations with CN from January 3 to January
6, 2007.  At this point in time, CN has only responded to one demand at the Council 4000 bargaining table, and two demands at the Local 100 table.  CN
presented the Union with an extensive list of demands, many of which are concessionary proposals that concern flexibility to contract out more bargaining unit
work, removal of bridging / early retirement options (ESIMA), hours of work, overtime averaging and pension issues.  The Company has not presented nor
discussed any monetary issues such as wages or benefits.

As a result, the CAW needs to rely on the full support of its CN membership to send the Company a strong message that the Union's demands currently on the
bargaining table, of which were comprised following various membership meetings and surveys, are important and must be considered seriously by the
Company.  We also need to send a strong message that the membership will not accept CN's proposed concessions.

CN is a very profitable Company that continually reports "record quarterly profits."  The Company announces billion-dollar profits each year, and boasts about
its continuing productivity gains.  As the CAW points out to CN on several occasions at the negotiating table, CN's productivity levels are amongst the best of
large companies in North America.  These gains are achieved in part by the hard work of our CAW membership, and as such, our members are entitled to a
fair and above-par contract in these lucrative times at CN.
