BCNU names Gary Fane as its new executive director of negotiations and
strategic development
July 11, 2005
On June 30th, the British Columbia Nurses Union (BCNU) announced that CAW Director of Transportation Gary Fane was hired as the
executive director of negotiations and strategic development for the BCNU.  In April of this year, Fane was appointed by Federal Labour
Minister Joe Fontana as a permanent member of the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) that was to start in September.  Fane will
begin work with the BCNU on August 15th.

Mr. Fane's new position was created by the BCNU Council earlier this year when it decided to divide the former chief operating officer
position in two.  Gayle Duteil, who has been serving as acting COO, will assume her new duties as executive director of operations once
Mr. Fane arrives.  Fane will continue his role as Director of Transportation until he leaves the CAW.

Gary Fane has been with the CAW since 1990, when he led the merger of the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) into CAW.
He has held the positions of National Representative (1990-92), National Director of Organizing (1992-96), and Director of Transportation
(1996 to present), responsible for negotiations with the railway, airline and marine transportation industry.  Fane has a bachelors’ degree
in political science and labour relations from Carleton University (1979).  He is completing his thesis for a Masters degree in industrial
relations from Queens University.

CAW National Council 4000 wishes Gary Fane continued success and best wishes in his future endeavours with the BCNU.
