Heartfelt Goodbyes to two Local 4001 members
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of two Local 4001 members from Edmonton.
Sister Debbie Hajkowicz, who was 50 years of age and worked at the CN Edmonton Intermodal Terminal,
passed away on December 30, 2004. Her funeral was held on January 6th in Edmonton.
Sister Donna Ross passed away on January 3, 2005 at age 49. Donna was also employed at CN, and was
working in Engineering at Walker Yard. Her funeral is on Friday, January 07, 2005 at the Connelly-McKinley
St. Albert Funeral Home at St. Albert Trail and St. Vital Avenue in St. Albert, Alberta.
Our deepest condolences to their family and friends. We will miss both.
This past holiday season was a sad one for our Council. We also saw the untimely passing of Kerry Kauk
in Winnipeg, who was the President of CAW Local 4002 (Prairie Region). Brother Kauk was 45 and worked
at CN's Transcona Shops. He died on December 31st.
In Montreal, the sudden passing of long-time union activist Brother Guy Verdi was announced. Brother
Verdi was 54, and worked at CN at the Montreal Intermodal Terminal.
The contributions of Brothers Verdi and Kerry Kauk to the railway union movement, and their selfless
devotion to their fellow railway workers will be missed, but will always be remembered with gratitude.
