CAW and Atlantic Wholesalers Ltd. reach tentative agreement

The CAW reached a tentative agreement on April 20, 2011 with Atlantic Wholesalers Ltd. in Moncton, New Brunswick, avoiding
potential strike action.  Atlantic Wholesalers is a regional division of Loblaw Companies Ltd.

CAW National Council 4000 / Local 4005 represents the workers at Atlantic Wholesalers, who handle various warehousing work for
Atlantic Superstores in New Brunswick.

The Union’s bargaining committee was faced with several concessionary demands from the employer and applied for councilliation
on March 1, 2011.  

On March 6th, the CAW held a strike vote meeting with its membership, where the CAW Bargaining Cmmittee received
overwhelming support from its members to beat back the concessionary approach by the company’s Toronto based bargaining
representatives.  The membership voted 98.8% in favour of strike action if deemed necessary.
 
CAW Council 4000 President Barry Kennedy wishes to congratulate the Union’s bargaining committee for their solid efforts in
reaching an agreement with Loblaws/Atlantic Wholesalers.  

The bargaining committee was comprised of Local 4005 Loblaws Unit 336 Chief Shop Steward Luke Woodworth, Atlantic
Wholesalers and Local 4005 members Rod Fury, Kevin Smith, Nick Pearson and Randy Lewis, CAW Council 4000 Regional
Representative Lou Walsh, and National Representaive Chad Johnston.

A ratification meeting will be scheduled shortly at which times details of the new tentative agreement will be released.
