Update on negotiations between the CAW and VIA Rail
|
|
The CAW met with VIA Rail May 14th through May 18th in Montreal to continue negotiations on CAW/VIA Rail Collective Agreements No. 1 and No. 2 (CAW Council 4000) and Agreement No. 3 (CAW Local 100).
The week saw a significant amount of time spent discussing work rules. While the talks have remained positive, VIA has been slow to respond to the issues and demands tabled by the Union. Several issues require additional research by both the CAW and VIA Rail. Both sides have agreed that no items will be finalized until an overall agreement is reached.
Further bargaining dates have been set for the weeks of May 28th, June 25th and July 16th, with the assistance of Federal Conciliation officers.
The CAW anticipates a deadline near the end of July and, as customary, the CAW Bargaining Committees will be holding strike votes in the weeks leading up to the deadline.
The Union will continue to keep our membership informed as talks continue with VIA Rail. If Council 4000 members require further information, you can contact a member of your bargaining committee (Council 4000 Regional Representatives for VIA).
